GAMERS who woke up to a shiny new console on Christmas morning could be looking at forking out €70 a pop for an exciting title to play on it.

- GAMES REVIEWS With Tom Hutchison

But there's a growing list of free-to-play video games to download.

Here, we give you the lowdown on the best free titles to play right now on Playstations, Nintendos and Xboxes...

FORTNITE: One of the most-played Battle Royale shooter games out there, expect cartoony graphics in a big open world to explore - all while trying to be the last one standing in massive online firefights of 100 players.

ROBLOX: This is a Lego-looking game described as "the ultimate virtual universe that lets you create, share experiences with friends, and be anything you can imagine".

What that means is a library of player-made games that younger gamers love to play with pals online.

Expect puzzle games, garden growing adventures, scary horror games and vast city simulations among scores of others.

eFOOTBALL: Okay so it's not the FC series from Electronic Arts, but this is still a very impressive free football game featuring teams like Arsenal and Man Utd.
