That Shaw is a relief as Luke banks on win being the catalyst that steers United out of trouble

IT says everything about where Manchester United are that relief was the overriding emotion in the dressing-room after this hard-fought win.

On a filthy, rain-lashed night at Old Trafford, with both sides reduced to 10 men, United found themselves clinging on to their slender lead and ultimately got over the line.

Ruben Amorim's side have toiled this season, but in the first half they produced their best form of his turbulent 10-month reign, only to have to cling on in the second half following a red card for Casemiro just before the break.

But there were enough positives for Amorim and his players to take from this vital win and build on for the games to come, suggesting this may prove to be a significant turning point in their season.

United defender Luke Shaw summed up the mood afterwards when he said: "In the second half, we were just thinking about surviving, not losing the game and trying to do everything we can. I think that’s why we sat off more.
