SCOTSTOWN IN DRAMATIC WIN
Irish Daily Mirror
|December 01, 2025
SCOTSTOWN are through to the Ulster Club SFC final following a dramatic penalty shootout win over Newbridge at the Box-It Athletic Grounds.
The Monaghan men were four points ahead when Joe McQuillan called the game off due to an unplayable pitch at O'Neills Healy Park last Sunday. Yesterday, they surrendered a 10-point lead before falling two behind in extra-time.
Both teams had chances to win the game in a chaotic closing few minutes and penalties were needed to determine who'd face Kilcoo in this season's provincial decider.
Rory Beggan, Jack McCarron, Kieran Hughes and Darren Hughes netted from the spot while Conor Doherty and Sean Young missed their penalties for Newbridge.
David McCague might have been annoyed at the decision to abandon last week's game, but he praised the heroics of both sets of players for serving up a proper Ulster Club classic.
“It's an amazing game we have and for club players to serve up that fare on the edge of December in those conditions was just phenomenal,” said McCague.
