Derry relegated as Mayo ease their own drop fears
MAYO manager Kevin McStay was "very pleased" with his sides’ performance in yesterday's win over Derry at Celtic Park.
Goals from Frank Irwin and Jordan Flynn shot his side to victory, relegating the home side in the process.
Irwin's 42-minute goal began an unanswered 1-5 tally that propelled Mayo 10 points ahead.
Conor Glass kicked three two-point scores in the latter stages but Derry never looked like engineering the goal they needed.
“Everyone's keeping their chin up and head up and they're driving it on,” McStay said.
“That's what we want to see and, to a man, we're very pleased with that effort.”
Derry were hit with another blow when goalkeeper Odhrán Lynch limped off midway through the first half.
The Oaks were two points up with half-time approaching but Mayo hit 1-2 to go ahead, including Flynn's goal on the hooter for a 1-11 to 1-8 interval lead.
Over the game, Mayo created six goal chances, four of which came before Flynn hit the net to put his side in the driving seat.
