High-flying Ulster finally smash Reds' resistance

- BY DEREK FOLEY

ULSTER racked up 22 unanswered second-half points to crush Munster in Belfast last night.

That the scoring was so low in the opening period reflected a spirited defensive effort by the visitors who stuck to their task despite being hemmed in mainly in their own half.

But there was due reward for Richie Murphy's side as they registered three second-half touchdowns through Tom Stewart, Jerry Flannery against his old club and Bryn Ward.

There can be little consolation for Clayton McMillian in yet another demonstration of just how vital Tadhg Beirne, Craig Casey, Jack Crowley and Gavin Coombes are to Munster's well-being. All four were absent and all four were badly missed.
