Man spared jail after sex attack on a close friend

A YOUNG man who sexually assaulted a woman he considered one of his closest friends has avoided going to jail.

The man, who is in his 30s and cannot be named, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The court was told the man had been in love with the woman and they had dated but she had decided she did not have feelings for him.

On the night of the assault in November 2022, the pair had been out with other friends in Letterkenny and had gone back to the woman's home.
