Football star meets Trump at White House after World Cup qualification
US President Donald Trump was last night preparing to host football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo at the White House, after Portugal's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ronaldo is set to be one of the main attractions at next year's World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
There are also talks of a friendly match between the Portuguese ace and the United States men's national team as part of the World Cup warm-up.
The meeting comes just days after Ronaldo was sent off against Ireland.
After initially being shown a yellow card for elbowing Dara OShea, referee Glenn Nyberg changed it to red after a VAR check. Ronaldo departed with a crying gesture to Irish fans, which sparked even more cheers.
