Guessand late show eases pressure on boss

EVANN GUESSAND scored a late winner as Crystal Palace secured their first home Premier League victory in over three months to brighten the mood around Oliver Glasner.

- BY RACHEL STEINBERG

The Eagles came into the game having won just one of their previous 15 matches across all competitions and without a home league win since November 1. They avoided falling to a first half deficit yesterday when Dean Henderson saved Tolu Arokodare’s 43rd-minute penalty.

Wolves went down to 10 men in the 61st minute when Ladislav Krejci was sent off following a second yellow card, moments after he was first booked.

Guessand won it late on with his first goal in a Palace shirt, lifting a sour mood that had been compounded by Thursday night's disappointing Conference League draw at Zrinjski Mostar.

Glasner did not deny the mood in South London had felt less than jovial, taking some responsibility for the sentiment in a pre-match TV interview. But the Austrian had also challenged the Eagles fans when asked about their vocal response to that 1-1 draw in Bosnia and Herzegovina, urging them to “stay humble”.
