DROGHEDA HIT BACK AFTER BYRNE ROW CLAIMS

SINN FEIN TD Joanna Byrne claims Drogheda United tried to have her removed as Chairperson.

Deputy Byrne (left) last week stated that Ireland should not play Israel in the Nations League - doing so in her role as Sinn Fein’s spokesperson on sport.

Byrne said: “On Monday morning, I was informed by the board of directors of Drogheda United that my role as Chairperson of the club was no longer tenable with an expectation I would resign, something I told them I intend to resist.

“This unwarranted action was taken after my public statement last week that Ireland should not play Israel in the Nations League while a genocide against the Palestinian people continues.
