Bank collapse causes canal sinkhole

A HERO pensioner saved his neighbour after a 165ft-long “sinkhole” swallowed their canal boats in the middle of the night.

Ten people were rescued and two vessels teetered on the edge of the chasm following yesterday's drama on Llangollen Canal, Shrops, England, at 4.22am.

Bob Wood, 75, was woken by a call of nature. He said: “I got up and thought, ‘We're leaning a bit’. I thought I was in the middle of a big storm, there was the sound of a lot of water.
