THE Noel Meade-trained Colcannon, off the track since disappointing at Navan in December, should prove too strong for his 13 rivals in the BAR 1 Betting Best Odds Guaranteed Maiden Hurdle which opens tomorrow's card in Naas - Ireland's final pre-Cheltenham action.

- BY PETER O'HEHIR

A classy bumper performer, he beat the smart Sortudo in a Grade 2 at last year’s DRF (when wearing a hood for the first time) and ended his season with a creditable third to champion bumper mare Bambino Fever in the Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival.

A son of Berkshire, Colcannon has run twice over hurdles, chasing home subsequent Grade 1 Royal Bond winner Koktail Brut on his jumping bow at Punchestown in November.

Then, without the hood, he disappointed at Navan in December, finishing a well-beaten sixth behind Road Exile.

Colcannon is better judged on his solid bumper form and his display against Koktail Brut.
