LACK OF FINAL-THIRD QUALITY OBVIOUS

- By BARRY COOPER

Poor loss to Rams sums up City's season

Hull City's final home game of the season proved to be like so many before it, a damp squib, losing 1-0 to Derby County in a game they simply could not afford to lose.

Despite dominating much of the game, another toothless display in front of goal ensured they failed to score yet again, and were punished for a lapse of concentration six minutes from time when Nat Phillips powered in a header from Craig Forsyth's pinpoint free-kick.

The result leaves City back inside the bottom three going into the final game at Portsmouth on Saturday, knowing three points are a must if they're to survive.

Here, City reporter Barry Cooper looks back on yet another MKM Stadium day of doom.

A microcosm of City's season

That performance and result summed up where they've been all season. Plenty of nice stuff, dominated the ball and carved out some good moments, but are inherently unable to take a chance.

A lack of urgency at times was present, but for the most part City actually played quite well, which will get lost in the result. Ultimately there was a huge lack of quality when it mattered and that's why they're facing relegation in the face.
