Deborah Parry, treasurer of Swanland Heritage Centre, said: "On January 1, 1941, Jessie Wilson began writing a diary in an exercise book.

"She recorded events happening in North Ferriby - including 'hatches, matches and dispatches, everyday life and wartime events which affecting Hull, East Yorkshire, the United Kingdom and overseas.

"Her entries concluded with the end of the war with Japan on VJ Day, August 15, 1945."
