MIKEY LEWIS HAILS SUPPORT FOR CLUB AS HE SAVOURS MATCH-WINNING PLAY

- By DAVID CRAVEN

'It is going to live with fans for long time'

HOMETOWN hero Mikey Lewis reckons it’s going to be an unofficial bank holiday all week and more in east Hull.

The Hull KR ace etched himself into Robins folklore by nervelessly nailing a last-gasp touchline conversion to deliver the club the Challenge Cup.

Improving Tom Davies' try, it secured an 8-6 win over gutted Warrington Wolves and bagged the club their first major trophy in 40 years - and meant the party instantly started at Wembley.

And jubilant Rovers fans continued celebrating yesterday when their heroes paraded the trophy around the city - and will for plenty of time to come.

It's their first cup win since 1980 and only the second time in their long history.

England star Lewis admitted: “I’m over the moon. And proud.

“No one can ever take it off me now - I'm a Challenge Cup winner and it'll be with me for the rest of my life.
