International action towards cleaner future

SOME correspondents to this letters page frequently assert that the rest of the world is not cutting its burning of coal, gas and oil.

Such claims that other countries are not taking action are demonstrably untrue.

Europe now gets around half of its electricity from renewables, with solar and wind generating more electricity than coal and gas combined. For example, Germany has five times more solar than we do, and twice the amount of wind, while France has just given the go-ahead to another 42 onshore wind projects.
