BOY, 14, RAISES MONEY IN MEMORY OF HIS MUM
AN East Yorkshire teenager who lost his mum to secondary breast cancer when he was just nine years old put his best foot forward on Sunday in an event in her memory.
Inspired by his gran Julie Wright, 62, of Skirlaugh, who recently made her third attempt at running the London Marathon for Breast Cancer Now - she had to pull out at 21 miles after becoming unwell - Alfie, now 14, decided to have a go at a sponsored run himself. He reached out to Julie to help him organise it, and she agreed to join him in the challenge.
The duo were then joined by Alfie's brother, ten-year-old Ernie - he was six when the boys’ mum Vicki Marshall died at the age of 34 - and their cousins, Frankie, 13, and Edith-Ivy, nine, in the run-walk along the Skirlaugh to Hornsea section of the Trans Pennine Trail.
Alfie said: “I wanted to support my Nan after she ran the marathon and to raise more money for Breast Cancer Now.
