Construction of ‘gas-free’ East Riding homes begins

WORK on a new affordable housing development in the East Riding is now under way.
58 new homes are to be built in Holme on Spalding Moor, located West of Market Weighton.
The development is dubbed ‘gas-free; as the homes will be built without traditional gas boilers. Instead, they will use low-carbon technology including air source heat pumps and solar panels. The developers say this will help keep energy bills down and make the homes warm throughout the year.
The scheme, which will be delivered by Yorkshire Housing and Hoober Urban Partnership, was granted planning permission by East Riding Council on October 2, 2025. The homes will be built off Sands Lane, with the project being named Beacon Park.
