WAS saddened to learn that the Hedon Royal British Legion on Magdalen Gate in Hedon is on the verge of closing.

One of the longest-established clubs in the area has been under the guidance of manager and singer Martyn Shipstone for over 14 years.

Martyn, originally from Cottingham, has a wealth of experience in the hospitality business and he took over the lease of now closed The Railway Inn, Cottingham, with business partner Graham Bird. They ran a successful business for over six years before spiralling brewery cost made it impossible for them to carry on.
