T'gana, Andhra cops clash at Nagarjunasagar dam site

Tension prevailed at the interstate Nagarjunasagar irrigation project site located on the Krishna river after Andhra Pradesh police allegedly clashed with their Telangana counterparts and took control over half of the project's spillway area in the early hours of Thursday, people familiar with the matter said.
A senior official from Telangana Irrigation Department said the incident took place around 2am on Thursday, when around 700 police personnel from Andhra Pradesh occupied half of the spillway area of the dam in Nalgonda district forcibly, gaining control of 13 of the 26 crest gates, and erected barricades and barbed wires to prevent the police and officials from Telangana going to the other side.
"When a few of the Telangana state special police forces guarding the dam raised an objection, Andhra Pradesh police pushed them away and even thrashed some of them, leading to clashes. They also damaged CCTV cameras at the entrance of the spillway," the senior official said, requesting anonymity citing that the model code of conduct was in effect for the Telangana assembly polls.
