MCD Proposes Night Food Street at Salimgarh Fort, Invites Applications

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has invited applications from street vendors of Chandni Chowk to set up stalls at a proposed night food street near the Salimgarh Fort, senior civic body officials said on Thursday.

The proposal revives a pilot mooted in the run-up to the G20 Summit in 2023, the officials said, adding that while the food street will initially be operational from 6 pm to 10 pm, the timings are likely to be extended once the project is up and running.

"The idea is to provide a curated selection of famous food items from Old Delhi at a single place. Based on applications received, people will be allowed to set up stalls in exchange for a nominal fee. The site near Salimgarh was cleared of encroachments, and the night food street will make the space near the Yamuna vibrant and lively," an official said.
