Key conspirator held in Bahraich violence case

Police in Bahraich on Thursday arrested the suspected main conspirator behind the communal violence that erupted during a Durga idol immersion procession in Maharajganj town on October 13 leading to the death of a 21-year-old man, a senior officer said.

The accused, identified as 29-year-old Khursheed Ahmed, a resident of Maharajganj, had allegedly fled to Nepal following the incident and was apprehended upon his return to Uttar Pradesh in the morning, additional superintendent of police (ASP), Bahraich (rural), Durga Prasad Tiwari said.
"Khursheed Ahmed and his associates were responsible for disrupting the Durga idol immersion procession by stopping the DJ (music), creating tensions that escalated into violence and the fatal shooting of Ram Gopal Mishra," Tiwari told reporters.
