Centre seeks time to frame cracker policy
Hindustan Times
|October 09, 2025
The Centre on Wednesday sought more time to decide on petitions filed by firecracker manufacturers challenging the permanent ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), saying it was negotiating a balance between protecting citizens' health and safeguarding the livelihood of those employed in the industry.
The Supreme Court will take up the matter on Friday.
Ahead of Diwali, manufacturers had received partial relief when the top court on September 26 allowed those holding valid certification to resume production of green crackers in their NCR units, on the strict condition that none would be sold within Delhi-NCR.
