JAMSHEDPUR: Unknown cyber criminals defrauded a retired Tata Steel employee and his wife of ₹21 lakh and demanded another ₹15 lakh by keeping the elderly couple under "digital arrest," threatening to implicate them in a Jet Airways scam at their residence in Seraikela-Kharsawan since Saturday, people close to the development said on Thursday.
The matter came to light after 62-year-old Neelam Goenka, wife of former Tata Steel IT head, 67-year-old Rajiv Goenka, came to the State Bank of India (SBI) Bistupur branch on Wednesday to break her fixed deposit (FD) and RTGS the entire ₹15 lakh amount to an HDFC Bank account in Tamil Nadu, as ordered by the cyber fraudsters.
