Cong legislator to start stir against smart meters today

Congress MLA from Kichha will launch a protest on Monday against the installation of smart meters in the state.
DEHRADUN: Meanwhile, other Congress MLAs have decided to raise the issue during the assembly session, which will begin on February 18, people aware of the matter said on Sunday.
Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behar said, "I will take out a "shav yatra" (funeral procession) against the installation of smart meters from Indira Gandhi Khel Maidan on Monday."
State Congress chief Karan Mahara alleged that the installation of smart meters is being done to benefit a corporate family and to suppress the poor and middle class families.
"It is to benefit a corporate family. They (government) just want to suppress the poor and middle class families for whom it is not economically feasible to recharge their meters every month," he added.
He said that their MLAs will also raise the issue in the assembly during the budget session.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on the other hand, said that the installation of smart meters is in favour of consumers and the Congress' opposition to the move is baseless.
