State Sports Council to Crack Down on Unregistered Outfits

After the Rajasthan high court ruled that unregistered sports associations cannot use the word, "Rajasthan" in their identity, the Rajasthan State Sports Council is preparing to crack down on sports bodies that are not registered with the government.

The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) is gathering details of those sports bodies that are unregistered and are using the word "Rajasthan".

Rajasthan State Sports Council president Neeraj K Pawan said, "We are collecting details of the organisations. If we find any unregistered sports associations using the word 'Rajasthan' in their names, then we will issue notices to them."

He added that under the Rajasthan Sports Act 2005, all sports associations, sports federations and district sports associations have to be registered with the Registrar of Cooperatives.

As per section 25 of the Sports Act, no sports association can use the term "Rajasthan" or use the name of a district as part of its name or undertake sports activity that amounts to representing the state or a district, unless the sports association is registered as a state-level sports association or a district-level sports association under the Act.
