A day after six Congress MLAs were suspended from the state assembly, the deadlock between the government and opposition in the House continued on Saturday.
JAIPUR: While Congress MLAs sat on dharna in the well of the House and spent the night in the assembly to continue their protest, party workers also staged demonstrations across the state.
Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi said, "The party organised demonstrations at all the district headquarters in the state. In Sikar, Congress workers tried to forcibly enter the collectorate, but were stopped by police, leading to a scuffle between them."
The development took place after the Rajasthan assembly witnessed noisy and unruly scenes on Friday over a remark by social justice and empowerment minister Avinash Gehlot while answering a question regarding working women's hostels, leading to three adjournments of the House and suspension of six Congress MLAs for the remainder of the budget session.
"No talks have been held yet, so, we are continuing our protest. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs Shrichand Kriplani and Pushpendra Singh met us in the morning and brought us some breakfast, and also spoke informally. But there have been no talks with the government," Congress deputy whip in the assembly MLA Rafiq Khan said on Saturday.
