JAIPUR: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday accused the Congress of having "double standard motive" with regard to the Yamuna water pact between Rajasthan and Haryana.

"During the Rajasthan assembly election (in 2023), the Congress accused the BJP and the central government of not taking any initiative to get the Yamuna water share dispute resolved with Haryana. Soon after we came to the power, our government signed an MoU with the Haryana counterpart for a fair share of Yamuna water that will fulfil the need of the Shekhawati region," said CM Sharma while addressing in an event in Sikar's Srimadhopur.

"However, during the assembly poll in Haryana (in 2024), the Congress promised in its manifesto that they will suspend this pact if it comes to the power. I was sure that Congress will never win this election. Shekhawati's people have seen their real face. Their double standard motive is clear through this dispute," he said.

On Saturday, the CM kicked off his three-day visit Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu in Shekhawati region, where he is scheduled to hold a meeting with officials over the progress of the Yamuna water project and also to participate in a slew of thanksgiving ceremonies organised by the districts' locals.
