With eye on polls, Cong appoints Allavaru as party's state in-charge

Appointment of Krishna Allavaru, joint secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), as new in-charge of Bihar in place of veteran Mohan Prakash, has reinforced general perception among the party workers that the Congress is taking the upcoming assembly elections in the state very seriously.

Not only Allavaru fits into the Congress's narrative of empowering the deprived sections, but his close connect with former party president Rahul Gandhi will help reinvigorate the organisation ahead of the assembly elections, said several senior leaders of the state Congress, while hailing AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge's decision to appoint a young and energetic leader to lead the party.
