Woman raped, attacked with acid in Assam

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour in front of her kids in Cachar district of Assam, police said on Wednesday, adding that the woman also suffered 70% injuries after the accused threw an "acid-like" substance at her.

The incident took place on January 22 at the woman's residence, with the husband claiming that their neighbour raped and tortured her after she allegedly refused to give her phone number to him. Police said that the woman is in a critical condition, and she is currently undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Efforts are also underway to locate the accused, they added.
