HC Upholds SC Student's Access to Scholarship

The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday decided to make toll collection through radio frequency identification-enabled FASTag mandatory across all 22 state-run highways from April 1.

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Monday upheld the eligibility of a Scheduled Caste (SC) student for a scholarship to study in the Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU). The student was denied a scholarship due to technical error and procedural delays by the college.

In 2019, 20-year-old Vaibhav Hiwale got a seat in Padmavati college, Aurangabad, in 2019, through Government of India Post-Matric Scholarship. The scholarship amount of ₹31,658 was credited to his account. He cancelled his admission on October 2019, and got enrolled in MNLU on 2020. He refunded the scholarship amount in 2021, and applied for a fresh scholarship a month later. However, MNLU rejected the application due to procedural lapses, citing a government resolution prohibiting dual benefits.
