Security forces along the line of control (LoC) have been scanning the area for unexploded mortar shells and projectiles fired by Pakistan between May 7 and May 10, after India responded to terror attacks in Pahalgam by strikes across the LoC on the morning of May 7, and then responded to several waves of attacks by Pakistan.

JAMMU:

The two countries announced the cessation of hostilities on Saturday and security forces are trying to ensure that the several unexploded shells lying around—the result of heavy shelling from across the border that claimed 25 lives—do not cause any further damage. On Sunday, police defused five mortar shells in Samba, including one near the deputy commissioner's office.

Security forces asked citizens to stay away from live shells and projectiles, particularly in the worst-hit Poonch district. In an appeal via an advisory and loudspeakers, the police said: "It has come to our notice that unexploded shells are present in various parts of Poonch district. For your safety and the safety of your loved ones, Poonch Police urges all citizens not to touch or approach any unexploded shell or suspicious object under any circumstances. Maintain a safe distance and immediately vacate the area if such an object is found. Inform the nearest police station or call PCR Poonch immediately on spotting any such object."

Honour role

What does it take to tell a war story with a sense of truth? From the start, Raghavan says, he was determined that his film would follow the facts. What did soldiers really feel? What thoughts went through their minds? What did it take to override the basic human imperative to survive, in order to keep fighting? The result is Ikkis, which tells the true story of a 21-year-old who secured the victory he wanted, and paid for it with his life. It is a war film that isn't centred on a villain, doesn't seek to promote hate. That puts India, and its heroes, first
