Young Indian batter Harleen Deol struck her maiden half-century of the season on Friday to help Gujarat Giants stay in hunt for a playoff berth in the Women's Premier League, score a thrilling five-wicket win over Delhi Capitals, at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium here.
LUCKNOW:
Deol smashed an unbeaten 70 in 49 balls with the help of nine boundaries and a six as GC romped home with three balls to spare, losing five wickets. Meghana Singh was the pick of GC bowlers with 3/35.
Though two wickets on consecutive deliveries in the 18th over of Jessica Jonassen brought the much-expected thriller to the game, Deol and Kashvee Gautham (9*, 3b, 1x6) managed the remaining seven runs only on three deliveries of the last over to inflict a thrilling win.
However, the win on Friday, helped GC jump to the second spot with eight points, ensuring the exit of UP Warriorz from the playoff race. UPZ will play their last game against Royal Challengers Bangalore here on Saturday.
