City cheers for women, celebrates their strengths and successes

Various events marked the International Women's Day in the state capital on Saturday, underscoring their role and importance in society.

Need to protect women's rights: NFIW

The National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), UP chapter, held a symposium on the topic 'voice of women's resistance in challenging times'. Federation's state general secretary Kanti Mishra presided over the session. Asha Mishra, the former president of the body, said: "Our livelihood, health, security and other basic issues are becoming more important today." Other speakers, namely social worker Naish Hassan, communist leader Arvind Raj Swaroop, senior journalist Vandana Mishra, spoke about the need to save the Constitution and democracy to protect women's rights.

Punjabi women writers' works discussed

The U.P. Punjabi Academy and Shia PG College jointly organised a seminar on women writers in Punjabi literature on the occasion. Keynote speaker Seema Rama, assistant professor at Shia PG College, spoke about the contribution of Punjabi writers for women's equality. The works of notable writers like Amrita Pritam and Dalip Kaur Tiwana were also discussed. Principal, Shia PG College, Shabihe Raza Baqri was also present at the event along with Arvind Kumar Mishra of UP Punjabi Academy.
