An interim report of the Group of Ministers (GoM) proposing to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six major communities of Assam was tabled in the assembly on the final day of the winter session on Saturday.

The report recommends a three-tier classification of STs in the state over the tribal status demand by six communities—Ahom, Chutia, Moran, ‘Matak, Koch-Rajbongshi and Tea Tribes (adivasis).
