Wanted in 14 cases, man arrested after encounter

Dehradun Police arrested a history sheeter facing over two dozen cases after shooting him in the leg during an encounter in the Selaqui area in Dehradun on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, a police official said.

The accused, identified as Laxman Singh Rawat alias Lucky, a resident of Clement Town, is facing 14 cases, including that of theft, robbery, NDPS Act, immoral trafficking, and Gangsters Act.

The police also seized a motorcycle, a 315-bore country pistol and empty cartridges from the accused.

Senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said, "Acting on a tip off about the presence of a notorious criminal, we began a checking in Selqui area. He (criminal) opened fire at the police. In retaliation, we had to shoot him in the leg. He was taken to Premnagar police for treatment."

"It came to light that the accused is a history sheeter. He is facing at least 14 cases, including that of theft, robbery, NDPS Act, immoral trafficking, and Gangsters Act. He was also involved in a robbery in Selaqui on December 4," Singh said.
