Muslim Outfit to File PIL Against UCC in HC Today

A Uttarakhand-based Muslim organisation will file a public interest litigation (PIL) against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday, people aware of the development said on Monday.
DEHRADUN: A Uttarakhand-based Muslim organisation will file a public interest litigation (PIL) against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday, people aware of the development said on Monday.
Naeem Qureshi, president of Muslim Sewa Sangathan, said, "I along with other members of my organisation will file the PIL against the UCC in the High Court on Tuesday. Our main argument against the UCC is that it encroaches on our personal laws. Our petition also emphasises our stand against registration of live-in relationships under the UCC. It shouldn't be called Uniform Civil Code as it doesn't apply to all citizens of the state."
