DIG, Saharanpur, dismissed accused inspector on January 11 after preliminary probe found allegations against him true

VARANASI: The police on Thursday arrested five members, including two women, of an organised gang of thieves from two different locations in Mau district. A total of 6.9 kg silver jewellery, 1 pistol and 4 live cartridges of 12 bore, 1 pistol of 315 bore and 4 live cartridges, 3 bicycles and Rs 1000 were recovered from them, informed police.

One of the accused was arrested following an encounter with a joint team of police and GOG near a Tubewell in vicinity of JaMarcus under Ghosi police station area of Mau during wee hours on Thursday, police said.

The injured accused has been identified as Sitaram. He has been admitted to the community health centre, from where he was referred to the district hospital where he is under treatment. Police informed that several cases are registered against Sitaram in Kanpur and Fatehpur. The other accused have been identified Rajveer Singh, a resident of Gautam Buddh Nagar; Mukesh, a resident of Dhanpara Kadar Chowk Banayau; Vimla, a resident of Auraiya and Munni Parihar, from Bihar.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had committed theft in a jewellery shop in Amila under Ghosi police station on the night of January 10, and in Khurhat under Ranipur police station on the night of January 6.

LUCKNOW: A former Saharanpur police inspector, who was recently terminated, allegedly thrived on properties of mafioso-turned-politician Haji Iqbal alias Bala after illegally acquiring them, revealed a probe into the incident.

In Saharanpur, police inspector Naresh Kumar, 52, allegedly got transferred around 49.6 bigha ‘Benami’ land worth several crores of Mafioso Haji Iqbal alias Bala, also a former MLC, in his wife Rajrani’s name from different people between June and August 2023.

The payment made through cheques in the name of paying the amount was never encashed and the amount paid was allegedly transferred to another account of his aide at gunpoint.
