UP removes caste signages from public records

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the removal of caste references in police records, public records and vehicle stickers, and banned caste-based rallies across the state, in compliance with an Allahabad high court directive aimed at eliminating caste-based discrimination.

According to the order, issued by officiating chief secretary Deepak Kumar late on Sunday, there will be no caste references in police investigations and records related to complainants, accused, witnesses. Vehicles displaying caste-based stickers or slogans will also be fined under the Motor Vehicles Act, the order said.
