Rohingya Entitled To Schools But Denied Admission Can Move HC

The Supreme Court on Monday said that children of Rohingya refugees who are entitled to enroll and study in Delhi government schools can approach the Delhi high court if they are denied admission, while also stating that nobody will be allowed to stay illegally by using children as a 'shield' for seeking relief from court.

The order was passed in response to a petition filed by a non-governmental organisation Social Jurist demanding admission of 18 children of Myanmar and Rohingya refugees. "If they are lawfully residing in Delhi... the appropriate recourse would have been to apply to the government school for which they are claiming themselves eligible, and in the event of denial of admission, the concerned children can approach the Delhi high court," a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant said.
