Already struggling to clear the existing legacy waste at the landfill, MC will take 43 more months to process the fresh heap of 1.25 lakh MT
NDIGARH: An executive engineer from MC's road division is facing an inquiry for allegedly granting permission to Bharti Airtel Limited to set up mobile towers on wheels at Sector-34 Exhibition Ground near singer Diljit Dosanjh's concert on Saturday.
The towers were reportedly called temporarily to ensure work coverage during the event, and Airtel was instructed to deposit ₹20,000 plus GST into the bank account. After BJP councillor Saurabh Joshi raised concerns that the engineer did not have the authority to grant such permissions, MC commissioner Amit Kumar assured that an inquiry would be conducted, and action would be taken if the officer was found guilty of wrongdoing.
NDIGARH: Injured in a road accident near the Railway light point on December 4, a 26-year-old youth succumbed to his injuries after fighting for life for five days, police said on Friday. The victim, Raveesh Kumar, was a resident of Zirakpur. He was riding his motorcycle while heading to the Panchkula district courts, when a Maruti Suzuki WagonR coming from the opposite direction hit him around 2.40 pm. According to a witness, the car driver was speeding and driving recklessly, leading to the collision. The impact caused Raveesh to fall and sustain severe head injuries. The car driver had rushed Raveesh to PGIMER, Chandigarh. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on December 9. A case was registered on Thursday.
CHANDIGARH: The city's garbage crisis shows no sign of abating, as a third mountain of waste, holding a massive 1.25 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of waste, has emerged at the already beleaguered Dadumajra landfill.
