Anti-war Maga rally around Trump’s strike
Hindustan Times Chandigarh
|January 05, 2026
While US President Donald Trump had built his political identity around criticising foreign overreach and vowing to avoid overseas entanglements, his allies in the Republican Party and the Make America Great Again (Maga) movement—many of whom had opposed foreign wars and regime-change interventions—largely rallied behind his actions in Venezuela on Saturday and Sunday, Reuters and CNN reported.
The decision to attack Venezuela, arrest its president and temporarily assume control of the country, Reuters reported, represents Trump's most striking break with those long-held positions: at a midday news conference he outlined an open-ended US role that included the possibility of further military action, continued involvement in Venezuela's politics and oil industry, and even “boots on the ground,” language presidents typically avoid because of risk of domestic political backlash.
“We are going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition,” Trump said.

Why courts need to be compassionate to strays
It is quite the irony that while Aloka— the Indian stray dog adopted by a band of Buddhists monks —is being cheered worldwide for walking thousands of miles in the US alongside the monks in their march for global peace, his counterparts in India are being subjected to cruelty by the very institutions that should protect them.
