Senior Maoist couple surrenders before police in Telangana

Senior Maoist leaders Athram Lachanna and his wife Chowdhury Ankubhai surrendered to the police at Telangana's Ramagundam on Tuesday, an officer said.

Lachanna alias Gopanna alias Rajappa, who has been underground for the last 40 years, appeared before Ramagundam police commissioner Ambar Kishore Jha along with his wife Ankubhai alias Anithakka alias Lakshmi and announced that they would be joining the mainstream.

Producing the Maoist couple before the reporters, Jha said that the couple surrendered to the police as they had realised the futility of continuing in the movement after a long time.
