BHOPAL: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reviving the cooperatives movement in the country, after it moved "slowly and turned almost dead" due to policy paralysis.

Addressing a state-level cooperative conference in Bhopal, Shah, who is also the Union cooperatives minister, hit out at previous central governments for failing to bolster the sector.

"For years, the cooperative movement was moving slowly and turned almost dead. Looking at the cooperative movement nationwide, it was uneven (in the past)," he said.
