THE NITI AAYOG ON SATURDAY SAID THAT INDIA HAS BECOME THE FOURTH-LARGEST ECONOMY, OVERTAKING JAPAN

- Vrinda Tulsian

NEW DELHI: Leaders of the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) hailed India's rise as the world's fourth-largest economy, saying the country was taking rapid stride towards the goal of Viksit Bharat (developed India) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, even as Opposition parties questioned whether it would translate to progress and prosperity for every household in the country.

Political reactions poured in a day after NITI Aayog chief BVR Subrahmanyam announced that India has become the fourth-largest economy in the world, overtaking Japan, citing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) data. IMF, in its World Economic Outlook (WEO) report released in April had said that India is expected to be the fourth largest economy in the world with a GDP of $4.19 trillion in 2025, ahead of Japan.

"It's not just a ranking, it's the reward for years of resolve. India has become the world's 4th largest economy, ahead of Japan, as per IMF data announced at the 10th @NITIAayog Governing Council Meeting," Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said in a post on X.

"Led by PM Modi's vision and fuelled by the dream of Viksit Bharat 2047, we are just getting started," he added.
