A 27-year-old man accused of killing a student leader in Assam’s Nalbari district and severely injuring a minor girl for spurning his advances died in a police encounter on Monday, senior officers said.

Nalbari Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bibekananda Das said the accused, identified as Asif Ali alias Rose Ali, sustained bullet injuries during a police operation in Mukalmua, early on Monday and later succumbed to his injuries.
