Kidney racket busted in T'gana, probe ordered

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government on Wednesday ordered a high-level inquiry by a committee of doctors to probe the alleged illegal kidney transplantations being done in a private hospital at Saroornagar, hours after the Rachakonda police along with the health department officials busted the racket, people familiar with the matter said.

The committee headed by Dr B Nagendra and comprising senior doctors Mallikarjun, Kiranmayi, and Sadhana Ray has been tasked with ascertaining the facts behind the alleged kidney sale racket going on at Alakananda Hospital located at Doctors Colony in Saroornagar. It was also asked to probe how long the hospital had been conducting such surgeries.

On Tuesday evening, the officials of the directorate of medical and health Dr Geetha and Dr Archana along with LB Nagar assistant commissioner of police A Krishnaiah and Saroornagar inspector of police V Saidi Reddy, raided Alakananda Hospital, on a specific information that the doctors at the hospital were conducting illegal kidney transplantations.
