Kangana apologises for ’21 farmers stir post
Hindustan Times Bengaluru
|October 28, 2025
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker and actor Kangana Ranaut was on Monday granted bail in a defamation case by a district court in Punjab’s Bathinda, even as she expressed regret for her controversial 2021 tweet made against an elderly woman during the farmers’ protest against the now-repealed farm laws.
Ranaut, a first-time Lok Sabha MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, appeared in the court amid heightened security weeks after the court had directed the actor-politician to be present in person while rejecting her plea to appear virtually.
The defamation case stems from Ranaut's retweet with her own comment on the complainant, Mahinder Kaur, 77, a resident of Jandian village in Bathinda district, during 2020-21 farmers’ protest.
