Global surveillance equipment manufacturers have clashed with Indian regulators over new security rules requiring CCTV camera makers to submit hardware, software and source code for government testing, official documents and company emails show.

Reuters letters@hindustantimes.com NEW DELHI:

The policy, applicable from April, has sparked industry warnings of supply disruptions and added to disputes between Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration and foreign companies over regulatory issues.

Under the requirements, manufacturers including China's Hikvision and Dahua, South Korea's Hanwha, and US-based Motorola Solutions must submit cameras for testing by Indian government labs before selling them. The policy applies to all internet-connected CCTV models made or imported since April 9.
