I held in Hyd kidney transplant case: Cops

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Telangana police has arrested Pawan Kumar alias Leon, one of the key accused in the high-profile illegal kidney transplantation case at Saroornagar in Hyderabad, which was busted in January this year, a police officer familiar with the development said on Wednesday.

The CID arrested Pawan Kumar in the city’s LB Nagar area on Tuesday evening. “He ‘was identified as part of the gang involved in illegal kidney transplants at multiple hospitals, including Alakananda Hospital in Saroornagar,” the officer said.

The officer further said that Kumar fled to Sri Lanka soon after the police busted the racket in January and had been absconding ever since. “He is also known to have run kidney rackets earlier in Sri Lanka, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai,” he said.
