Dog bite cases in state up by nearly 50% in 2 yrs

Patiala had the highest number of dog bite cases in 2022 at 2,066, followed by 3,300 in 2023 and 3,285 cases in 2024
SANGRUR: Punjab saw a 47% rise in dog-bite cases in two years—going from 15,519 in 2022 to 22,912 in 2024, an RTI filed by HT revealed.
The number of dog-bite cases stood at 582 in 2021, skyrocketed to 15,519 in 2022 and consistently went up over the years (see box).
With 4,682 cases in just two months, 2025 may surpass the figures of previous years. Of these, Jalandhar reported 1,333 cases in January and February 2025. The data was provided by the National Centre for Disease Control (Directorate General of Health Service) in response to the RTI.
